November is shaping up to be a good month in terms of cask ale. We had the Casks for a Cause recently which saw 12 cask ales (and 1 cask killa’) available for sampling. Next up National 17 will be hosting another awesome event for another great cause. So let’s talk about that for a minute. Continue reading
One of the things that I love most about craft breweries is how engaged they are with their local communities. They aren’t just some massive faceless entity pumping out suds to make the most profit possible. Village Brewery uses the slogan: “It takes a village to raise a beer. And a beer to raise a village.” to emphasize how community-oriented they are. I had the pleasure of attending one of their recent events which involved the Village Wit, a pair of bull testicles and a really good cause. Continue reading
Sometimes Facebook can provide you with useful information. A couple of weeks back I was lucky enough to see an announcement from Village Brewery that they would be offering some tours of their microbrewery to the public. Needless to say I gave them a call ASP and reserved my spot. After all, It would’ve been odd if I didn’t want to spend my afternoon hanging out a brewery and sampling craft beer!

House or apartment hunting is different for everyone. Having a good neighbourhood pub is one of the things that I look for when scouting out new areas to live. Luckily, Calgary has a bunch of pubs serving quality craft beer on tap. I recently went to the The Pig & Duke for a meal and a couple of pints and this neighbourhood pub is exactly the kind of local hang out that I look for.
I find it amazing how the BMO Centre changes its appearance so often. It looks different every time I’m there. Last weekend the hall was decked out for the Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival. I could see an abundance of wine, spirits & craft beer stalls scattered cross the area along with some great food to pair with your beverage of choice. Basically, the stage was set for some intense flavour exploration!
